- Problem
Some X applications, such as Mathematica, will not function properly with the default installation of X-Win32.
- Cause
Specialized fonts for these applications are not installed with X-Win32.
- Solution
Copy the fonts over from the departmental server and install them into X-Win32. This is accomplished as follows:
-
Locate the fonts folder by going to Start/Run, typing \\saturn-pa\Support\public\Windows_OS\Internet\X-Win32, and hitting enter. Alternatively, if the R: network drive is configured on your system, the files are also at R:\Support\Public\Windows_OS\Internet\X-Win32\Fonts. These are the folders you need to copy over.
They need to be copied to \Program Files\StarNet\X-Win32 5.1\Lib\Fonts on whatever drive you have installed X-Win32 on. To copy them open an explorer window for both folders, select all the font folders in the source (server) folder, and drag them to the destination (local) one.
After all the folders are copied over, run X-Win32 and right-click on its icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen). Choose X-Config from the menu that pops up, and select the Font tab. Select any folders that are currently listed under "Font Path" and click remove. Then click add and one-by-one add every font folder that exists in your \Program Files\StarNet\X-Win32 5.1\Lib\Fonts directory.
Once this is done you just need to click the Make Fonts.dir button and click okay. Then just exit and restart X-Win32 and Mathematica and other appilcations should no longer give "missing font" errors
