PA RedHat: Monitoring and Cancelling Print Jobs

Problem:

I need to see the status of and cancel a "runaway" print job.

Solution:

Follow the instructions below to cancel your print job.

  1. Take the printer offline (press GO button or ON-LINE button) and wait for printer to stop printing.

  2. Use the lpq command to check the status of the queue - for example: lpq -P PrintQueueName or lpq -P PrintQueueName@print.pa.msu.edu

  3. Write down your job's ID number.

  4. use the lprm command to remove the job - for example: lprm -P PrintQueueName ID Number or lprm -P PrintQueueName@printer.pa.msu.edu ID Number

  5. Next turn off the power to the printer, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back on (or use the RESET function from the printer's control panel).

To simply view the status of your print job, follow instruction 2 above.
